The 1st Unsupported walk of the Skeleton coast from Luderitz to Walvis Bay was completed by all 14 members on October 26th. After 20 days of walking and desalinating water.... but now its time to turn my focus to the North Pole and all the preparations needed to make that a success.

7000 Seals!

Update from the team, courtesy of the official expedition website:

"The team finished pumping water before nightfall last night so had a good nights sleep and woke up to a beautiful sunrise. They have walked for 14.9 miles today, all along the beach – there wasnt a huge amount to see, aside from around 7000 seals, many of which followed them along the coast! They have finished slightly early today, allowing people to rest up a few aching muscles and sore feet."

Food

When you are carrying everything you need for 20 days on your back you quickly realise that the majority of that weight will be food. In fact of the 26Kg I started with, almost 15 were food. So how do you get the most calories per gram while still getting a varied enough diet?

My 744grams of daily energy intake is divided up as follows:

* 180grams of homemade granola giving me 800 calories and good slow-release carbohydrates

"An exciting night at camp last night as jackals raided at around 4am! They tried to steal boots, walking poles and water bottles, but Christina woke up and managed to chase them off. The decision has now been made to tie everything to the tents so the same thing cant happen again!
